Field trips provide students with an opportunity to
experience various locations in our community. On 31/08/12 our pre-primary students were taken to a supermarket. Not
only does such a field trip connect students to their community, it also
connects them to the food they eat. Visiting the supermarket also provides an
opportunity to teach them about nutrition, math, measurements and occupations. They
saw how people help themselves in selecting the articles that they like (self –
service). This makes them learn the concept of freedom and responsibility.
People can find everything and anything from eatables to canned products. The
children enjoyed their journey to the supermarket.

EID CELEBRATION (17/8/12)
August is indeed a very special month as it brings both
religious and national festivals. We celebrated Ramzan on 17/08/12 with a lot of
enthusiasm. Ramzan brings a significant message and highlights the importance
of fasting. It scorches our hatred and sins and teaches the path of
righteousness. 2.5% of annual savings is given as charity and if people cannot
afford this, they can give their smile as an act of charity. As a part of celebration our students depicted
the important events related to the festival. Tiny tots wore colourful dresses.
Sweets like sheer khurma were distributed. Prayers were offered. The importance
of charity and breaking the fast was explained very clearly. The entire
atmosphere wore a festive look.
Everybody enjoyed each and every moment. There was truly a lot of fun
around.

Independence Day Celebration
‘Orchids’ was in fervour of celebration, commemorating India’s Independence.
National festivals reinforce feelings of patriotism and remind us of the need
to work harder for the country’s progress.
The festivity began with flag hoisting by the Chief Guest,
Mr. Partha Saradhi, Finance Manager, K12 Techno Services, accompanied by the Principal
of Orchids, Mrs. Mona Mehdi. The Salute and the National Anthem were followed
by the speeches of Orchidians in English, Hindi and Telugu. Patriotic songs were
sung with the school choir taking the lead.
The Chief Guest in his address stated that the mighty
achievements of our great leaders must always be remembered. We understand
through their success that hard work definitely paves way to success and
happiness.
The Principal in her address stressed that we can feel the
real joy of independence only when we free ourselves of evil influences, in the
form of thoughts, words or deeds. The need of the hour is to retain our
identity and culture.
The day’s programme concluded with distribution of sweets.

MOTHER AND CHILD COMPETITON
The moment a
child is born, a mother is born. Every mother becomes a child herself
in the love for her offspring. Nature entrusted the job of
bringing up kids primarily to mothers because of their
natural intuitive mind and patience. To encourage this special
relationship, we at Orchids conducted ‘Mother and Child’ competition on the
occasion of Janmashtami for our pre-primary students. August month brings lot
of joy and fervor because of a number of festivals it brings with it. As a part
of this competition, mothers of our students came in special costume. They dressed
their child either as Krishna or Radha. There was a ramp walk arranged for
them. As a chief guest we invited Ms. Lavanya to judge the show. She is a
fashion designer from NIFT, who participated in many shows and is currently
working with media. To add more colour to this competition, our esteemed
teachers performed a dance. Nevertheless, the best pair was awarded a prize,
all the participants have done a commendable job. The atmosphere was very
bright, colourful and joyous. Not only had the children enjoyed, even the
parents will undoubtedly cherish this moment for a long time.

VAN MAHOTSAV (4/8/12)
We all know that if there is nature there is future and life is nurtured if
nature is nurtured. It is also known that planting of more trees is one of the
best ways of preventing earth from global warming. But do we really take the
needed care to preserve forests and reduce pollution by planting more trees?
Van Mahotsav, the annual tree-planting festival in India, is meant to make us conscious of our responsibility towards preserving nature. Orchids celebrated the festival in various ways. All the display boards depicted the need to sow seeds and let them grow into trees to serve us. Vegetation that safeguards creation on the earth became the cynosure of the period. There was a brief programme of songs, slogans and skits in which all the classes presented the urgent need to preserve greenery for the welfare of life on our planet.
Later each class planted a sapling of Bougainvillea in the school and it was a pleasure to watch their activity. The Principal of Orchids, Ms. Mona Mehdi and all the teachers were actively involved in celebrating the festival of a significant message. All the students were of the eagerness to ‘Go Green’.
